In 1952, Sterling Lord founded his distinguished agency and counted such literary icons as Jack Kerouac and Ken Kesey among his early clients. Peter Matson established his firm in 1979 and rose to prominence representing such writers as Dee Brown and John Irving. In 1987, the two joined forces, creating the prestigious agency that continues to flourish today.

About Ira Silverberg
Ira joined SLL in 2008. He has worked in publishing since 1984 and has held various positions including, Editor-in-Chief of Grove Press and Publisher of Serpent’s Tail/High Risk Books. He began agenting in 1998 and represents, among others, New York Times best-sellers Neil Strauss, Erica Kennedy, and Ishmael Beah; National Book Award Nominees Adam Haslett, Christopher Sorrentino, and Rene Steinke; Commonwealth Writers’ Prize winner David Bezmozgis; PEN/ Hemingway finalist Gabe Hudson; Prix Sade winner Dennis Cooper; and Ako Prize winner Arnon Grunberg. Silverberg also represents style visionaries Kate Spade, Andy Spade, and Amanda Brooks. He represents the Estates of Kathy Acker, Jacqueline Susann and David Wojnarowicz. Long active in the New York literary community, he serves on the Boards of the New School MFA Writing Program; The Council of Literary Magazines and Presses; BOMB Magazine; and the American Committee of the Jerusalem International Book Fair.
